UAESRA Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is the UAESRA?

The United Arab Emirates Squash Racquets Association (UAESRA) is not an association to which there is MEMBERSHIP. It is not 'owned' by anyone. It is made up of a body of volunteers who dedicate their time for free to running the UAESRA Dubai Men's Squash League.

TEAMS register to play in the Men's league for which there is a subscription fee payable to the UAESRA. There are usually TWO seasons per year.  The TEAMS may be made up of individuals of a club (each club has their own rules as to whether players representing their club need to be members of their facility) or individuals who come together to form a team and cover the cost of their own registration fees.

If you are a resident of Dubai and wish to play in the leagues, please contact the Organiser at organiser @ dubaisquash.org so you may be directed towards a suitable club.

I have recently moved to Abu Dhabi and would like to play squash Ð where can I play?

Squash is not as prevalent in Abu Dhabi as it is in Dubai Ð there are however many places to play.  Please contact Faisal at Le Meridian Hotel in Abu Dhabi - Tel No 02 6742020.

Faisal is the squash professional there and has been involved with squash in Abu Dhabi for a very long time, he should be able to help you out and point you in the right direction.

I have recently moved to Dubai and would like to play squash Ð where can I play?

There are numerous clubs and hotels around Dubai where squash may be played Ð with the massive construction ongoing in the city it is impossible to keep an up-to-date list of every club / hotel.  There is a list here on the website of the most popular clubs in Dubai where squash is played.  Contact any of those clubs / hotels and make your enquiry.

[If you belong to a club / hotel where squash is played but is not listed here Ð contact webmaster @ dubaisquash.org with full details to have your club entered on the list.]

Coaching:

I would like to have a session with a squash coach but do not know of any in this area Ð are there any coaches here?

One of the UAESRA Committee members, Chris Wind, is a squash coach available for both individual and team sessions.  Chris, himself an ex-international player, coaches players of all ability from novice to the highest level; he coaches men, ladies and childrenÕs groups.  Chris may be contacted by emailing organiser @ dubaisquash.org  There are other very good squash coaches in Dubai; Chris is aware of these coaches and will be able to put you in touch with them.

Recently arrived in Dubai, is top-level coach Darren Bradbury.  Darren is a freelance coach but works mainly from Nautilus and the Dubai Country Club.

Darren may be contacted through his email:  deadnick27@msn.com or Mobile: 050 2561965.  You may also visit DarrenÕs website at www.squashdubai.com

Squash coach Nikky Harradine has not only been a member of the UAESRA Sub-Committee for many years but has also been coaching in Dubai for the past fifteen years.  Nikky has organised many junior tournaments and she runs the Ladies Squash League now sponsored by 'Head'.  That league consists of seven divisions comprising complete beginners up to advanced level.

Further information may be viewed at the dedicated ÒCoachesÓ page on this site at: http://www.dubaisquash.org/coaches.shtml

[If you are a squash coach and you do not mind having your details on this page Ð contact organiser @ dubaisquash.org with your details]

Dubai MenÕs League

I have recently moved to Dubai and would like to play in the menÕs league Ð how can I join?

The menÕs league is a team league and as such you must first belong to a club.  Join a club and get yourself entered into a team.  There is no individual league although there is a ranking list of registered players in the UAE Ð although the vast majority are in Dubai.  Registration in that list is usually through playing for a team in the league.

I am a captain of a League team, how do I submit my results?

It is the home captain who should submit match results.  This is done ONLY by emailing the results using the form provided in the CaptainsÕ Area on this site.

Some match result sheets in various clubs still show that results may be faxed Ð THIS IS NOT THE CASE!  Those match results sheets should be discarded as this fax number is no longer linked to the league results service.

I am a captain of a League team and I have forgotten the password and username for the CaptainsÕ Area, how can I get into this area?

If this is the case, contact: webmaster @ dubaisquash.org you will then be sent the required information.

I played last week but my individual score has not been put on the league Individual Standings or SRA Ranking List.

If the home captain has not sent in the results of a match then individualsÕ results cannot be entered into the above lists.  If this is the case you should take it up with your captain (whether home or away) to have the results sent to organiser @ dubaisquash.org to have the individual results entered.

If these are received before the next matches are played they WILL be entered.  Team scores for late results will always incur a 0-16 penalty for the TEAM as a whole.

If you have checked this, but scores have been sent in, a mistake may have been made.  In this case, email organiser @ dubaisquash.org so it may be checked and amended as necessary.

I turned up for a match but there was no opponent to play, do I get points in the individual list for the league standings?

No, a walkover score will be given to the team for a no-show but as you didnÕt actually play your match, you will not be given any points as an individual.

In this case home captains should enter a walkover rather than an individual name on the team result sheet when it happens.

I have a query on the results which are showing on the website, who do I contact?

In this case, all scores and rankings are compiled by Billy Baxter, any queries or complaints concerning scores and rankings should be addressed to him.

I have a query on fixtures or a teamÕs Order of Merit, who do I contact?

In this case, Chris Wind, as co-ordinator of the League should be contacted as he will try to solve any problems.

I have a complaint, who should I contact?

In this case, Chris Wind again as co-ordinator of the League should be contacted as he will try to solve any problems.  If he is unable to immediately resolve any complaint, he will seek assistance from Andy Staines, as Chairman of the UAESRA.

The Chairman may become involved in any issue at any time if he feels he may be able to help; however, all complaints should initially be addressed to Chris.

UAESRA Ranking List

I played a match and won but I have moved down the ranking list Ð why?

If you play a match, the number of ranking points you gain / lose depends on your score ( 3-0, 3-1, 3-2, 0-3, 1-3, 2-3) and depends on who you play.

If you play somebody ranked very close to you or way above and you win , you will get more points than if you play somebody ranked way below you.  If you play somebody with 50 or more ranking points less than you, you will not gain any points at all.  If you play somebody with 50 or more ranking points above you and you win, you will gain the most points.

If other people ranked around you in the list have played and won they may easily move above you in the list because they have gained more points than you in a recent match, although you may have both won 3-0.

This is explained in great detail on the ÒHow the Rankings WorkÓ page.

Are only the league match results entered into the UAESRA Ranking List?

No, if you have played a friendly match against another player entered in the list, you may arrange beforehand with that player, that the result is to be forwarded to be entered into the list.  If that has happened you may send your results to organiser@dubaisquash.org and the result will be entered.

If results of friendly matches have been sent in and added to the list, this will act as another reason why other players may see themselves move down the list Ð because other players are obviously playing more matches and sending in their results.

I noticed that I have just had some penalty points added to my ranking score Ð how come?

If you are a league player, registered in a team for the current season and you do not play for 5 consecutive weeks you will be awarded penalty points for not playing.  If you continue not to play, you will continue to have penalty points awarded every 5 weeks until you do play.

If penalty points are not awarded to those players who do not play, they would remain in a position close to where they were at the beginning of the season which is unfair on those who play regularly.

This is explained in more detail on the ÒHow the Rankings WorkÓ and ÒLeague RulesÓ pages.

Other:

I have a very minor complaint about not much anything at all but I want to complain anyway, who should I contact?

DonÕt bother us with minor complaints which we cannot sort out, but rather, try to sort out amongst yourselves as we the organisers are busy enough each week with everything else.

Of course, if you do have a minor complaint which you feel needs addressing then get in touch.

Otherwise there are many good toy shops in the country where you can get yourself a new teddy.
